time travel

The geek celebrations of the other day was interesting but not really for the ipad.
To be honest, I understand the product, why it is there and the need of this kind of stuff.
Between a kindle and a netbook, something geeky clearly but with a potential impact on my digital life.
I like the netbook like everyone else. It is small, realitvely fast and communicative enough. You can pretty much do everything you would normally do with a laptop.
I like the kindle because it represent a new demand. You have to try a kindle to get the difference with a laptop…or an iphone.
So yes, I understand why the Ipad was created. However, the lack of camera is for me the worst decision Apple did on this product. Ipad could have been the perfect digital widget for me if I was able to skype on it.

in a nutshell

But what is really interesting after this product launch is the demonstration of two important trends reflecting a curious evolution. Or if you prefer it is

Mobility was at the center of Jobs presentation. To present Apple as a mobility company is of course a taunt for nokia and samsung. It shows as well that the web as we know it now is evolving in a very interesting way. More and more people are browsing the web via their mobiles and of course it has an impact on how you produce digital content online. The main issue is the poor integration of flash on mobile platform. Too much demanding in terms of ressources and still memory, you cant find any good integration of a flash site on a mobile. The banners, the site, all the interactive wisdom you saw from many years are now back to what the web was 10 years ago. Of course, this is a caricature: mp4, html 5, you have plenty of tools to create something amazing.
The constraints however has changed.

The second trend is clearly the monotasking operating system. The concept is hell not new. Look back 20 or 30 years ago. When the personnal computer was not existing and everything was just a terminal. Apple is launching in a fancy way a terminal unix pure style. No doubt that this is not an innocent move. After fighting for years to impose a multi tasking way of working, we are refocusing on what was the roots of computing. Focus on what you are doing and nothing else.

So we are reducing or regressing ? Far from that. The Moore competition seems over and the market seems to be mature to change and evolve. Not a flying care yet but a different horizon in terms of digital consumption.
